This Thursday, August 20, in the largest park running series in the Baltics “Izskrien Rīgu”, intense battles for victory and awards are expected among Latvia’s leading runners in both 5km and 10km distances.
This season, the popular running series “Izskrien Rīgu”, where the number of participants sometimes even exceeds two thousand, has held four stages in Uzvaras parks, Mežaparks, Biķernieki and Lucavsala. Now it’s time for the final stage, which will take place around Maris pond on August 20.
At each stage, along with two thousand running enthusiasts, several of Latvia’s strongest runners, among whom are Latvian championship winners and record holders in athletics, as well as medalists from other sports, take the starting line.
“Izskrien Rīgu” is the largest park running series in the Baltic States, whose popularity continues to grow rapidly. The opening competition of the season was opened on June 4 in Uzvaras parks with a historical record – a total of 2194 participants started in all distances. This is the largest cast in the series’ more than ten-year history.
In the first stages of the season, Latvian record holder in 3000 meters and 5 km road race, 2023 European U-20 champion in 3000 m and 5000 m, semi-finalist of the Paris Olympic Games in 5000 m Agate Caune, 27 times Latvian distances, Latvian record holder in the half-marathon Dmitrijs Serjogins, Latvian champion in various distances Edgars Šumskis, Lauris Lapsa, who became the Latvian champion in the steeplechase this summer, U18 Latvian and Baltic champion Adrians Vaisjūns, medalist in the junior competition Āriks Anspaks, junior medalist in the LČ triathlon Daniils Vakuļičs, this year’s Latvian championship medalist in indoor track and field and mile race on the highway Kitty Walter. Yevgeniis Stepanovs and Zanda Malanchuk, world champion in orienteering in the Master group, Ilona Daģe, stood out in “Stirnubuks” with victories and awards. Artūrs Niklāvs Medveds, the owner of several Latvian records, also competed in one stage.
This Thursday, we will see most of them and others competing around Māris pond and fiercely fighting for prize-winning places. After the competition, a great end of the season is expected with a concert, eating klinger, raffle of valuable prizes for supporters and greeting the best. The event is organized by XEvents in cooperation with the municipality of the city of Riga, and it is financed by means of the state budget.
